How to Avoid Odometer Fraud

Car dealers are very cunning and they try to do everything they can to get extra money from the customers. One such strategy is to alter the odometer of the car to make it seem like the car has not been used so much. Nowadays a digital odometer is used in most cars and it is very easy for the car dealers to alter the odometer without any kind of difficulty. There are various steps that we can take to avoid odometer fraud which are as follows.

Hiring a mechanic is the first and easiest step in this regard as he can conduct a thorough inspection of the vehicle and make sure that there aren’t any defects in the car. In addition to making sure that there is no fault in the car, he can also check for any loose screws or coils near the dashboard of the car to make sure that the odometer hasn’t been tampered with. The next step is to check if all the digits in the odometer are in a straight line. If there is discrepancy of any kind then you can take the required steps without any delay. You can also check for the service sticker on the door or hood of the car as it tends to display all the necessary information about the actual mileage of the car. If you can’t locate the service sticker anywhere in the car then there is a great chance of odometer fraud.

You should try and get all the relevant information about laws relating to odometer fraud and consult an attorney that can evaluate the scenario and help you take action against it.
